The Rewarding Practice of Journal Writing
When I wrote The Rewarding Practice of Journal Writing: A Guide for Starting and Keeping Your Personal Journal, I had been keeping a regular journal for over 25 years. I thought I knew a couple of things about the process and wanted to share those ideas with others. But the larger reason was this: I sometimes encouraged individuals to give journaling a try—people who were grieving, for example, and people who were going through significant life transitions. I felt (and still feel) that journaling can add perspective to one’s life. It can help the writer see signs of change and growth that one might otherwise miss. When I encouraged journal writing, this is what I often heard: “But I don’t know how to do that. I don’t know where to begin.” So I wrote a short book to hand to such people so I didn’t have to explain it again and again in conversation.
It’s 64 pages long and composed of 16 basic suggestions for what you do to start and maintain a journal. It’s filled with quotations. If you’re serious about journal writing, I think this book will be useful to you.
