This Week’s Featured Willowgreen Resource:
The Art of Listening in a Healing Way: The DVD
It’s hard to believe this happened: I wrote in The Art of Being a Healing Presence that there was nothing more important in being such a presence than listening. Then I wrote four sentences about listening and moved on to the next topic. When I looked at that book a year after it was published and realized what I had done, I knew I had to do something more. So I created The Art of Listening in a Healing Way as both a book and a DVD simultaneously. The two books are meant to be companions. The DVD stands on its own.
Here is what Elaine Wiesman recently wrote about this DVD:
The Art of Listening in a Healing Way is by far the best DVD I have used in training hospice bereavement volunteers. Not only do you cover sound principles of listening, you also have sectioned this video so appropriately—before you start through when you conclude. I truly believe that you have encapsulated the essence of what a volunteer needs to be fully present to someone who is grieving in an honest and compassionate way that also honors the volunteer’s emotional place.
Elaine is a former hospice bereavement manager, having worked with grieving children and adults for over fifteen years. She is a member of the Association of Death Education and Counseling and the American Academy of Grief Counseling.
Jim Dear – I loved our breakfast and our communion. I could listen to one minute inspirations all day long.. I loved the Childhood … thanks for putting into words things that I can’t imagine putting into words myself. Love, Chria
